Southbound traffic peaks from mid-October through mid-December. Northbound peaks from mid-April through mid-May. Booking inside those peaks means competing for finite capacity with every other snowbird on the same lane.
Book 4–6 weeks ahead of your preferred pickup week and you'll get the lane at fair market pricing. Wait until the week you want to leave and you'll pay a premium — or get stranded.
The four biggest snowbird lanes

- Midwest ↔ Florida (I-75 corridor)

Round-trip booking: worth it?
Booking both directions with the same carrier locks in your return pickup and often earns a small discount. What it does not do is guarantee the exact same truck or driver — the industry doesn't work that way. But it does secure your slot on the return lane.
