About the Service

About Boat Transport

Boat transport is heavy oversize freight, not automotive shipping. Beam, length, and height determine whether the load is legal, requires permits, requires escort vehicles, or requires travel restrictions like daylight-only or no-weekend movement. We handle the entire permit workflow for you.

Powerboats up to 8'6" wide typically ship on their own trailer with a standard hitch. Boats between 8'6" and 12' wide require oversize permits in most states. Anything wider requires pilot cars and often route-specific approvals. Sailboats commonly need mast-down transport and cradle support.

FAQ

Boat Transport — Frequently Asked Questions

These are the questions customers most often ask us before booking a boat transport shipment. If you don't see yours here, call our dispatch team any time.

Do I need my own trailer to ship my boat?+

Not necessarily. Boats can ship on a client-owned trailer, a carrier-provided trailer, or in a cradle. Cost varies accordingly.

What size boat requires permits to transport?+

Anything over 8'6" wide, 13'6" tall, or 65' long typically requires state-specific oversize permits. Our dispatch handles the permit process.
